Cosmelan
Cosmelan® is the world-leading and number one professional pigmentation removal method designed to treat the condition melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, chloasma, solar lentigo, and ephelides (freckles). Cosmelan treatment has been successfully performed on over one million patients with excellent long-lasting clinical results.
Cosmelan® has an intensive corrective effect that regulates overproduction of melanin, inhibiting and controlling the appearance of new dark spots, its dual corrective and controlling action achieves both short and long-term results by keeping hyperpigmentation under control preventing its reappearance.
Cosmelan will also increase skin luminosity and correct uneven skin tone as a part of the process. Unlike hydroquinone and tretinoin treatments, which can be harsh on the skin and cause a number of unpleasant side effects, a Cosmelan peel contains Azelaic Acid, which boosts new skin cell production, and Kojic Acid, which is an acid that is derived from several different types of naturally-existing fungi and this inhibits the production of melanin in the skin.
Hyperpigmentation is caused by the abnormal production of melanin, this pigment is responsible for skin colour and a consequence of localised overproduction of melanin causes irregular skin colouration and dark spots. Numerous external and internal factors can cause hyperpigmentation such as genetics, UV exposure, inflammation, hormonal changes, ageing, chemical exposure and photosensitising medications.
Efficacy studies support its success in all types of skin, hyperpigmentation and ethnicities.
The Cosmelan method consists of 4-phases which are necessary to achieve the target outcome.
Intense depigmentation is achieved in clinic in phase 1, and treatment continues at home for 9 months.
Firstly, an in-depth in-salon consultation will be completed to determine your suitability for treatment, and to make sure you fully understand the homecare you must use for a year to get the full results. When you are ready to commence your journey skin images will be taken and you will be given a depigmentation skin preparation homecare kit to use for 15 days which will prepare the skin to ensure you have the best outcome of the treatment.
An in-salon preparation peel (Tran3x peel) will be performed 48 hours before the actual Cosmelan treatment begins, this will prepare the skin, removing any dead skin cells and allowing deeper penetration of the Cosmelan.
The Cosmelan treatment will be performed in-clinic 48 hours after the preparation peel, After the Cosmelan mask treatment has been applied you will leave the clinic with the mask on, and the mask will need to stay on for 6-8 hours depending on your Fitzpatrick skin type. At this stage, you will be given a kit of Mesoestetic post-treatment professional homecare products to use, and an appointment will be made for you to come back in two days for a further check-up and to collect another product.
You will then require a further check-up in clinic in two weeks time and again two weeks thereafter. We will of course be available for you at any time you need in between appointments. Skin analysis images will be taken throughout your journey.
For the first month post Cosmelan , the recommended skincare products MUST be applied three times a day, morning, noon, and night. After the first month the products will be applied twice daily, morning and night for two months, then the products will be reduced to once a day for a further nine months.
Cosmelan is indeed a commitment, but a commitment with outstanding proven results for a previously difficult-to-treat condition.
There is a recovery period for Cosmelan we would recommend a week of mostly staying at home, this will be discussed at length during your consultation.
Peeling of the skin, redness and irritation can be expected initially and may last for a number of weeks, this is normal and necessary part of the treatment. The Melan recovery product we give you will help to reduce the peeling and irritation significantly, this product is included in the post procedure pack.
Slight redness of the skin may be present into the second month post treatment. Our Jane Iredale make-up can be worn during this time as it is designed for immediate use after surgery and post advanced skin treatments.
“Before booking any course of treatment, we recommend you book a consultation.”
Why have a consultation with us?
Because without knowing what is going on with your skin how can you treat it correctly?
During your consultation we will ask you some questions and chat about your health, lifestyle, nutrition, and stress levels as well as how you feel about your skin. These external factors are important as they have a huge impact on the way your skin behaves. We can treat skin symptoms but in order to give you properly happy skin we must identify the causes of any problems.
Knowledge is power and we also think it is very important for you to understand how your skin functions. So, as well as offering you solutions in the form of a plan containing treatment and targeted homecare recommendations we will also share with you some skin education.
We offer two types of consultation that are conducted face to face in clinic as well as an online service via zoom or facetime for those of you who cannot come in to see us in person.
We recommend clients new to the clinic ideally start with a full Skin Consultation and Bespoke Treatment Plan Creation, this one includes a treatment too, a great way to get a feel of what we can do for you.
