Peel Treatments
Here at Skin Revolution we offer a wide range of skin peels and as with all our treatments they can be tailored to suit your skin’s individual needs. We offer these as stand alone treatments or your therapist might include one in you bespoke facial.
The following is a guide to the peels we offer but your therapist will of course choose the best one for your skin.
What is a chemical peel and what do they do?
You have probably heard lots about chemical peels, but what exactly are they? Well, chemical peels are in clinic procedures. A chemical peel involves applying an acid solution to the face, which is then usually neutralised after a specific amount of time. It causes a controlled injury to the skin which encourages stimulation and recovery, removing dead skin cells ahead of growth and repair.
We use 2 depths of peels:
Superficial chemical peel
Also known as a light chemical peel, a superficial peel removes the outermost layer of skin -the epidermis. This is a treatment you might have every two to five weeks. Or as a one off before a special occasion.
Superficial chemical peels are used to:
Improve dry skin.
Smooth skin.
Reduce wrinkles.
Reduce blemishes.
Reduce pigmentation.
Minimise the appearance of fine lines.
Improve age spots.
Reduce acne scars.
Although most commonly used on the face, superficial chemical peels can be used on the neck and body, too. For example, if someone is prone to acne on the back or chest, a superficial peel might help.
Medium chemical peel
While a superficial chemical peel removes the outer layer of skin, a medium peel removes skin cells from both the epidermis and portions of the dermis – the upper part of your middle layer of skin.
Medium chemical peels are used to:
Treat wrinkles.
Reduce acne scars.
Even out skin tone.
As a medium peel usually aims to tackle deep-rooted areas of the skin – such as scarring – you might need to repeat the procedure a few times to see results.
Peels are brilliant for treating almost all skin concerns due to the variety we have available.
How do peels work?
The effects of chemical skin peels are sometimes over-exaggerated in the press and by urban myth. Chemical peels rarely cause the skin to peel (there are a few exceptions to this) Peels are used to enhance and perfect the skin gently. They do this by stimulating the skin to naturally produce more collagen, elastin, and glycosaminoglycans.
What should I do to prepare for a skin peels?
Before a skin peel, using pre-treatment products is essential to make sure that your skin is in its best health possible this will enhance and ensure an even result from your treatment. Preparation is key to achieving brilliant end results. As the ingredients we use are of a medical grade, this period of prepping makes your skin stronger therefore reducing redness and minimises any reactions experienced both during and after the peel.
Which skin peels do we use?
We use a few types of peels, all have their own particular benefits and can be used on most areas of the body. The following is just a guide:
Skin Better Retinol Peels
Retinol is a form of vitamin A, which is commonly used in skincare products as it encourages the growth of skin cells once it is applied, great for minimising ageing. Due to its small molecular size, retinol can penetrate into the deeper layers of your skin. As this is where your active skin cells are, the retinol that reaches this level encourages your skin cells to grow and renew. A retinol peel can also help unclog your pores and reduce acne outbreaks by encouraging the skin to heal.
Environ Cool Peel and TCA Peel
Environ’s unique cool peel technology is a non -invasive intelligent skin renewal system developed by Dr Des Fernandez, to safely and effectively help refine, revive and brighten skin. Experience a real, lasting difference to the skin through luxurious science. The cool peel is very gentle and feels ‘cool’ for those who don’t like the heat generated by traditional chemical peels.
Traditionally TCA peels gave brilliant results but with significant downtime, however this is an intelligent, non-invasive skin peel, that has been cleverly formulated to stimulate many growth factors in the skin without stripping or irritating, keeping the skin’s barrier intact….. the result -A more youthful, thicker, healthier, tighter and smoother looking skin. This peel is also suitable for treating acne scarred skins.
Mesoestetic Peels
We have a wide choice of chemical peels from Mesoestetic that can be mixed, matched and layered to achieve your skin goals. A chemical peel is actually a dermo-cosmetic procedure used to stimulate accelerated and controlled skin regeneration by using Chemoexfoliation agents. Depending on which combination of chemicals we use determines which layer of the skin is acted on and what kind of effects it has. Specialist peeling for Melasma and stubborn pigmentation is available in the form of Cosmelan from mesoestetic.
“Before booking any course of treatment, we recommend you book a consultation.”
Why have a consultation with us?
Because without knowing what is going on with your skin how can you treat it correctly?
During your consultation we will ask you some questions and chat about your health, lifestyle, nutrition, and stress levels as well as how you feel about your skin. These external factors are important as they have a huge impact on the way your skin behaves. We can treat skin symptoms but in order to give you properly happy skin we must identify the causes of any problems.
Knowledge is power and we also think it is very important for you to understand how your skin functions. So, as well as offering you solutions in the form of a plan containing treatment and targeted homecare recommendations we will also share with you some skin education.
We offer two types of consultation that are conducted face to face in clinic as well as an online service via zoom or facetime for those of you who cannot come in to see us in person.
We recommend clients new to the clinic ideally start with a full Skin Consultation and Bespoke Treatment Plan Creation, this one includes a treatment too, a great way to get a feel of what we can do for you.
